My trip to Ireland wasn’t all stone circles and eldritch pacts with ancient forces. Believe it or not, I also drank a little. Irish whiskey doesn’t have the high reputation of Scotch, but it’s plenty good, and there are a lot of brands in Ireland you can’t get in the united States. So I followed the Irish Whiskey Trail to visit the country’s distilleries – only to discover that you can actually visit the distilleries.
That’s not a lot of distilleries for an industry with such a high profile. On the other hand, the small number makes it relatively easy to hit them all during a reasonably long trip. We had two weeks, which was more than enough time to fit them in. In doing that, we learned something: none of the major whiskey distilleries actually let you see their distilleries
